The blue \u0026amp; brass transition badge was only used by Ludwig for a very short time during 1958 to 1960 and is considered by many to be a truly golden era of Ludwig's drum building history. This is Ludwig's legendary 3-ply mahogany\/poplar\/mahogany shell. There is an internal date stamp which reads JUN 23 1960 in black ink next to the original \"5x14\" written in white during manufacturing. The wrap is undeniably 100% authentic Oyster Pink Pearl, but there are signs that it may have been transplanted from a different drum. There is an area around the grommet on the inside of the shell that looks to have been carefully smoothed out with a saw dust and glue mixture, the wrap does not go all the way to the edge on one side (which can only be seen when the head is removed), and although the wrap goes into the scarf joint as it is supposed to, there are marks there that may have been from removing previous wrap and re-inserting. Aside from that, all parts are correct and original down to the wires. The heads are modern Ludwig Weather Master heads. The drum appears to have been well cared for throughout the years. The Oyster Pink Pearl wrap shows beautifully with a flat seam and only the lightest signs of wear. There are no extra holes or other modifications. The original WFL P-83 strainer is beautiful and operates smoothly with the matching WFL butt plate. The tone control looks great and is fully functional. The hoops are the original prized chrome over brass hoops. The bearing edges are true and original. We have priced this at less than half of what we have sold similar Oyster Pink Jazz fests for under the assumption the wrap has been transplanted from another original Oyster Pink drum from this period. This is a rare opportunity to get an erra correct Jazz Fest in authentic Oyster Pink at a fraction of the cost.
