For your supreme viewing pleasure is this extremely rare vintage Gretsch Max Roach Progressive Jazz 4x14 snare drum. This historic piece is one of the earliest examples of this drum and features original Gladstone lugs and snare strainer before these were made with Micro Sensitives. We have seen this version of strainer with an ever so slightly longer area where the strings for the wires tie on at the strainer side, but the strings are attached just fine and are securely on this example. The strainer and wires wires throw on and off perfectly. It's in overall great condition and all original aside from the modern heads and Puresound wires. The 3-ply shell has the incomparable tone one can only experience from a Gretsch drum that's seasoned for 75+ years. The internal date stamp is partially smudged and reads XXX 29 1950. The early nickel die cast hoops and hardware show normal signs of aging with some plating loss on the strainer. It operates smoothly with the original arm. The Max Roach Model badge is still present and even cooler is that this drum is autographed inside by none other than Hal Blaine. It sounds beyond amazing and is a true pleasure to play with that Great Gretsch Sound. This would be a shining star in any great vintage snare collection or studio. Enjoy!
