For your prime viewing delight is this stunning vintage 1958 Slingerland Modern Jazz Outfit with matching single ply / solid shell 8 lug Gene Krupa Radio King snare with 3 point strainer in rare and iconic Capri Pearl wrap. In fact, 1958 was the very first year this wrap option was offered. You can see one pic of this set and know that it's an heirloom quality gem - and the kit is in about as collector's clean condition as it comes for drum sets from the '50s.
The drums are all in excellent condition with only the slightest indications of age. The wrap is in spectacular condition. While many vintage Capri Pearl kits have a purple hue over time, this is still deep, black, bright and shiny. The green, purple, and pink opalescent flakes, blended with the gold strands, against the ebony black background is nothing short of breathtaking - there's simply nothing else like it. All seams are flat and tight. Like on nearly all capri pearl drums, there is some slight "eyebrowing", where the wrap pushes up against the lugs, but it's subtle, stable, and par for the course with Capri Pearl drums. Remarkably, the snare drum is free from any eyebrowing.
The hoops are original chrome over brass stick savers, and the rods are all original. The 3 ply mahogany interiors of the bass drum and two toms are beautiful and provide a magnificent tone. The floor tom still has its nice working push button leg brackets, and the rail mount on the bass drum works well.
There are no extra holes, the bearing edges are true and original, and the bass drum still has the gorgeous original Slingerland calf skin heads. Most importantly, this set tunes up wonderfully and is an absolute pleasure to play. Beautiful drum sets in rare sizes and finish in this condition don't come along very often, so seize the moment! While this set deserves to be played for the next 100 years, it could equally deserves to be displayed in a museum exhibit. Enjoy!
