The Down Beat was Ludwig's compact, dance-band-era model, built around a shallow mahogany shell for a quick, articulate crack rather than deep boom, and this example carries that classic snap. There are no extra holes or modifications of any kind. Finger pointing at small cosmetic bend on the top hoop (see last pic) which does not affect the fit or tuning in any ay.
