For your extreme viewing delight is this intensely rare and coveted Ludwig Super 401 snare drum - owned, played, and recorded by legendary drummer extraordinaire - Zoro! Zoro used this to record with Lenny Kravitz, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, and many others throughout his career.
The Super 401 model designation signified a 5x14 lacquered one-piece brass shell, and was only briefly available from roughly 1958-1960. This is sporting a pre-serial Ludwig badge, which dates it to 1960 when the 401 was first introduced in the catalog, and even graced the cover.
Few examples of these drums exist today, and this one is in gorgeous condition. This drum has minimal signs of wear throughout with just a few small blemishes as shown. The ten Imperial lugs have aged well, as has the original P-83 strainer which operates smoothly. It has the original small knob muffler. There are no extra holes or modifications of any kind.
This drum tunes up easily and is a joy to play with the crisp, warm, articulate tone that wowed Joe Morello all those decades ago. To say this drum would be right at home amongst the very finest of collections, studios, and stages is an understatement. Enjoy!
