For your kind consideration is the Apex 460 large diaphragm multi-pattern tube condenser microphone. It's in excellent condition with virtually no signs of wear. This microphone had circuit modification done by Advanced Audio. Per Dave at Advanced Audio, "the circuit was changed back to an original C12 circuit which remedied the flaw in the original circuit. The capsule and transformer are both stock so it will sound like a C800G, which is brighter in the upper midrange than the CM12 or CM251." The microphone indeed sounds great when tested. It has a pleasing bright, clear tone with a slight emphasis in the upper mids as Dave described, but none of the shrillness normally found in less expensive microphones. It would make a fantastic choice for vocals and acoustic instruments. It functions properly in all of the polar patterns. If you wanted to take the modification further towards the C12 or ELA M251 sound, Dave said it could be updated it with their AK12 capsule and BV18 Transformer. As it is, this mic sounds terrific and would be a super useful addition to any mic locker needing a multi-pattern tube mic. The original power supply, 7-pin cable, IEC power cable, and a windscreen are also included in the original hard case. Enjoy!

From Apex:

The APEX 460 is a high performance wide diaphragm vacuum tube microphone that delivers incredible versatility and tone. The APEX 460 is an outstanding choice as the main microphone for any professional studio, home studio, or any of the computer based direct to hard drive recording system.

The 12AT7 tube in the APEX 460's preamp stage offers warmth and a smooth transient response not available in solid-state microphone design. The APEX 460 has nine different selectable polar patterns easily available from a selector switch on the front panel of the external power supply.

Rather than limiting the user to the three popular patterns (Omnidirectional, Cardioid, and Figure Eight pattern) most commonly available, the APEX 460 has three gradient stages between each position. This allows the studio engineer or home recordist far more versatility especially in vocal applications where an omnidirectional pattern isn't quite 'fat' enough, but cardioid is too narrow.

Due to their rugged construction, high SPL handling capability and affordable price, the APEX 460 is also an outstanding choice for live sound reinforcement or live recording. They have proven themselves as a versatile overhead microphone for drum kits, for guitar or bass cabinets where superior sound quality and high sound pressure handling is required. They are also the mic of choice for saxophones, flutes, acoustic guitars or acoustic bass where subtlety and clarity is paramount.
