1962 Slingerland Mardi Gras Radio King Super Gene Krupa 5.5x14 Solid Shell Snare Drum

For your viewing pleasure is this supremely beautiful and rare 1962 Slingerland solid shell Super Gene Krupa 5.5x14 snare drum in dazzling Mardi Gras finish. We have owned other Slingerland snares and drum sets in this finish (as well as Rogers drums in Mardi Gras), and can tell you without hesitation that the batch of wrap used on this beauty is the most densely populated Mardi Gras wrap we have ever laid eyes on. Lucy Ricardo and Ethel Mertz must have been working the conveyor belt at the wrap factory that day and were really getting wild with the confetti. Simply stunning!

There are no extra holes, and the drum is in excellent condition with no scratches, or puckering of the wrap. The seam is flat and tight. The strainer and butt assembly both work as intended, as does the muffler. The very early four digit black and brass Niles badge looks great and is nice and tight. The maple interior is a bit darker than we have seen in the past, but it is indeed a solid maple shell (see pics). A couple of the tension rods are replacement Slingerland rods, and are a slightly different length. All of the chrome is nice and presentable, although there's a little bare brass on the tensioning knob on the butt plate assembly. Both hoops are chrome over brass. In true solid shell Radio King fashion, Remo heads fit ever so slightly snug. The edges are true and original.

Most importantly, this drum tunes up wonderfully and is a true sonic treat to play. Enjoy!
